Ingredients: Pomegranate Extract
Pomegranate extract is primarily composed of alkaloids and polyphenols. Ellagic acid is the active ingredient from which a plethora of health benefits are drawn. Ellagic acid occurs naturally in many fruits and nuts, and abundantly in the pomegranate.
Pomegranate extract has been shown to have some exciting antioxidant and anti-viral properties. Research has shown that pomegranate extract has the ability to destroy several viruses on contact. This research has instigated further clinical trials, the results of which are still being analyzed.
One such study has confirmed, however, the ability of Ellagic acid to effectively protect cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. Other compounds, known as anthocynadins work together with Ellagic acid to make it an even more effective antioxidant.
Pomegranate extract and cancer. Recent research has demonstrated the ability of Ellagic acid to bind to DNA, preventing cell mutation that leads to cancer. Ellagic acid has been shown to inhibit a molecule whose activity allows certain viruses to transform normal cells into cancerous cells, once again preventing carcinogenic mutation.
